An Amazon Best Book of the Month, September 2014: “Stop trying to pimp me out to all these groupies,” a famous author and infamous cad utters in “Revenant,” one of three cleverly interconnected tales that begin Margaret Atwood’s superbly sardonic Stone Mattress. He is referring to an impending visit from an infatuated graduate student who is supposedly writing a thesis about his sonnets…which aren’t really sonnets (long story). Naveena—her name, he derisively but accurately points out, “sounds like cheese food slices. Or better—like a hair-removal cream”—is insufferable enough to be sure. The depiction makes yours truly nervous to be writing this review, but it’s all part of the fun, and these tales are fun, which is odd considering the sinister current that runs through many of them. But it’s as if the reader is privy to some sort of inside joke. This is especially evident in “The Dead Hand Loves You,” when Atwood playfully skewers the horror genre then gleefully indulges in it, and the ominously tongue-in-cheek “Torching the Dusties.” Fans of Margaret Atwood will certainly delight in this collection. But beware, the Stone Mattress will make groupies of old and new readers alike. –Erin Kodicek

Interesting and accurate to my experiences of myself as well as others. This is not just about sex either; it is about personality expression, too. One of my friends think it is too hard on women rather than men. I do not see that. It described my deceased uncle quite well, my brother, and both of my wives, 2 out of 3 girlfriends, and me, too. It's good for some laughs. We all have our quirk and peculiarities. As with all astrology, it does not and cannot hit the mark 100%. It's fun to see what celebrities are the same sign as you, even though I am not much of a fan of Hollywood.

Possibly my most coveted zodiac books. I actually lost my first copy in a car accident and had to order another one because it just has such fresh information. Each sign is split into the male and female counterparts and goes into such great detail. If ever you are curious about how your sign will pair with anothers and want an in depth look, this book will definitely do it for you. Along with the chapters and sections, on the side margins of each page, you are provided with little tidbits of information regarding to the sign, such as numbers in realtion to your sign and turn on and offs (which is probably my favorite part). This book has definitely been a conversation starter between family and friends resulting in good laughs at how accurate the information was at times.

As a Gemini woman, there were about four sentences out of the pages about us that were correct for me. I understand that it can't be spot on for every single person and their sign, but I've read astrology descriptions about me online that are more spot on than what they described as a Gemini woman. This book makes Gemini females sound like this seductive witch that lures and manipulates for her amusement, and never knows who she is because of her two personalities and the personalities she puts on in front of different people. No??

I was highly skeptical of astrology. A friend had this book on a trip and was raving about it, so I flipped through. Just skimming through my own sign I was floored about how much of it was not only accurate but SPOT ON, so I purchased it for myself. It's really neat to read about different signa of the people in your life and get a different understanding. I have had soooo many aha moments reading this. You won't regret this purchase!

Starsky and Cox nailed each sign with information that was perfectly accurate and precise. As I read Aries to my husband he sat there with his mouth open saying they don't know me and he had this quirky little smile on his face, admitting they had nailed him exactly. It is amazing how they delivered with precision the details of each sign. I have read and studied astrology for many years and never found another book as informative and accurate as this one. The signs in the book address the positives and negatives and what was truly amazing was the information on the complexity of the earth signs [Taurus, Virgo and Capricorns] and Pisces. These signs are the most confounding and confusing of the zodiac, however upon reading their descriptive explanations as to why these signs are designed as they are, revelations of information flood you with knowledge about how to cope with them and understand how to push their on and off buttons and how to avoid conflicts. Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Aquarious and Sagittarius are amazing reads and their personalities are quite different, unique and easily understandable. Cancer and Scorpio are without much fanfare and deeply dedicated to family. If you want to learn about the intricate details and workings of each sign as well as the parental connections each likely had and how family relates together, this is the book to read. My Hubby said, "How did they get all this information, it's amazing what they know and it's right on". "Were they there at each conception?" It appears they were.
